The Passion of Perpetua and Felicity

Abstract

This book has it all: the Latin text with a critical apparatus, translation, and commentary, the Greek text, a detailed discussion of the composition, date, and characters mentioned in the text, as well as a thorough review of the Latin manuscripts, plus an index verborum, and other typical indices. This book is useful for classicists and religious scholars and readers who are interested in the meaning of the text and its historical context. A more careful perusal, though, leaves this reader wishing that more care had been given to proofreading and editing. Heffernan's analysis demonstrates his mastery of biblical literature but suggests less facility with classical literature and scholarship
