Images for Classicists

The purpose of this slim edited volume is ‘simple’: ‘to suggest to scholars who work almost exclusively with text some fruitful approaches in considering word and image together, to illustrate some of the conventions respected by the ancient artist that trip us up today, and to offer some practical tips about acquiring images and using them’ (p. xiii). It’s a timely topic, and contributors are well chosen: chapters draw on recent work on (ancient) ‘image and text’, spanning a range of media from Geometric vase-painting to
late-antique mosaics.
