Analysis of the Oldest Official Names of Monastery in Greek

Abstract

The well-known library, The Ecclesiastical Historical and Archival Institute (EHAI) of the Patriarchate of Bulgaria in Sofia1, has kept eight liturgical manuscripts which were copied by the monk Neophytos, the person who will be mainly analyzed in this article. Besides his scribal colophons, Neophytos also wrote two dedication notes, which are transcribed below. They specifically reveal how the monastery of Panagia Archangeliotissa was called in the 3rd quarter of the 16th century.
